About the Project
ForeMining is an editorial project devoted to music and musical instruments. In one place we bring together a library of in-depth articles and an interactive quiz designed so that every answer, right or wrong, leaves you having learned something.
We believe that knowing an instrument changes the way you hear music. When you know why a violin has a small piece of wood inside its body, or how a saxophone reed turns breath into vibration, listening gains new layers. Our goal is to offer that kind of understanding in a way that is clear, accurate, and enjoyable to read.
What you will find here
- Instrument quiz: more than two hundred questions in six categories and three difficulty levels, with a concise explanation for each answer and a link to the article that goes deeper.
- Article library: thirty complete articles on how instruments produce sound, how they are built, how they are organized into ensembles, and which musical concepts hold it all together.
- Search and categories: tools to get quickly to what interests you, by instrument, family, subject, or difficulty level.
How we work
All content is produced by the ForeMining editorial team, which signs its articles institutionally. The rules for research, review, use of sources, and correction of errors are described in the editorial policy and the corrections policy.
Images and media are published only when there is a verifiable license, and every credit is recorded on the credits and licenses page. We do not publish excerpts of copyrighted music.
Privacy first
The quiz works without signing up. Your progress and best scores stay only in your own browser, and you can erase them at any time. Details are in the privacy policy.
